Chennai finally gets the epic makeover it deserved, and it looks wonderful!
We marveled at the Street Art festivals in Mumbai and Delhi, where local as well as international artists combined their forces to redefine the cities’ walls forever. While we were in absolute awe of the art, we were left a little disheartened to think that nothing like this would happen in our own city of Chennai. And on January 20th, our prayers were answered.
In a move that none of us predicted, Goethe-Institut Chennai and Max Mueller Bhavan in collaboration with Chennai City Connect gave this city the gift of art. This city, which was previously subjected to being graced only with propaganda-oriented political art woke up to a revolution on a cool, unassuming Tuesday morning: a street art revolution.
Conquer the Concrete as it is meant to be known, is Chennai’s first ever street art movement that saw artists from Germany, Spain and USA collaborate with our very own Indian street artists and cinema hoarding painters to transform the streets of Madras into artistic masterpieces.
Spread over a fortnight, the festival finally ended on February 7th, but the art will hopefully live on forever, reminding us with every glance of the revolution that has finally begun.
